What is Ho Math and Chess™ Learning Centre?
The term math and chess is coined by Mr. Frank Ho. In 1988, Frank Ho had wanted to teach his 5-year old son, Andrew, how to play chess but had not known how. So he researched the game and taught Andrew chess. Andrew then became the youngest Canadian chess master at the age of 12. In 1995, Frank, a Canadian certified math teacher, started Ho Math and Chess™ in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Intrigued by the relationship between chess and math, Frank created the world's first math and chess integrated workbooks for pre-school to grade 7 students. Research article on the theoretical foundation on how math and chess are integrated has been published in the BC math teacher’s journal.
The Ho Math and Chess method is to develop and train children’s mathematics ability and thinking skills through chess game in a fun and educational environment.
